Through free legal representation and community advocacy, we provide survivors with the tools they need to build their own futures.
Utilizing our own teams of attorneys, along with pro bono services provided by our partners, we provide guidance to survivors in family law, immigration law, consumer debt, vacatur, and more.

How We Help
Survivor Justice Center strives to provide survivors with client-centered services which are holistic, trauma-informed, culturally responsive and collaborative.
Holistic
We recognize that each client is part of many interconnected systems, including family and community, social services, and various legal systems.
Trauma-informed
Our services are provided in a way that is accessible and appropriate for survivors of trauma, while respecting and responding to the effects of trauma throughout the process.
Culturally Responsive
We respect that each client’s experience is influenced by their cultural, religious, social, socioeconomic, and historical customs, beliefs, and values, while also recognizing their unique intersecting identities.
Collaborative
We acknowledge that the client is the expert on their own life, including the nature of the problem, acceptable solutions, and the measure of success.
Through our integrated service model, in addition to meeting clients’ various legal needs, Survivor Justice Center provides clients with safety planning, accompaniment, case management, and social service referrals through its Community Advocacy Program.
Our History
Founded in 1971
Survivor Justice Center (formerly the Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice) has provided legal advocacy to low-income and primarily immigrant and Latino populations in Los Angeles for over 50 years.
In its early years, the organization played a historic role on a range of social justice issues related to racial discrimination, police brutality, school desegregation, and the illegal involuntary sterilization of Latina women. Over time, the agency evolved to focus on direct services and, beginning in the late 1990s, greatly expanded its work for victims of domestic violence.
Today, Survivor Justice Center provides family and immigration law services to over 1,000 survivors in Los Angeles County annually.

We are committed to providing survivors with knowledge and tools to help them overcome barriers and create new opportunities. We believe that investing in personal growth and empowerment fosters long-term beneficial outcomes for survivors, their families and the entire community.
We believe all individuals have the right to know and understand their rights, the options available to them and the potential impact of their choices. We are committed to providing clients with services that are client-centered, trauma-informed and culturally responsive, so clients are educated and empowered to make their best decisions for themselves and their families.
We recognize that all forms of violence and oppression are connected, and we cannot work against one form of injustice and not work against others. We work alongside our partners in the anti-violence movement to dismantle the systems of oppression that enable all forms of violence wherever they occur, including in calling for and working toward an end to the discrimination, anti-immigration bias and structural racism that underlie police brutality and state-sanctioned violence.
We believe the voices of survivors hold the greatest power in challenging inequity and injustice. We seek to amplify these voices in order to advance systemic change and advocate for a legal system that is fair for all.
