Cy Pres (French for &#8220;as close as possible&#8221;) awards allow unclaimed settlement funds from class-action suits to be distributed to organizations that are most likely to benefit or pursue the interests of the class.<\/p>\r\n<p>Court settlement awards come about when parties in a case agree that as part of the settlement one party will make a specified dollar contribution to a specific charity and the court approves the settlement.<\/p>\r\n<p>The Survivor Justice Center is an appropriate recipient of both\u00a0<em>Cy Pres<\/em>\u00a0and court approved settlement funds.\u00a0<em>Cy Pres<\/em>\u00a0and Court Settlement awards will support the free legal assistance Survivor Justice Center provides for low-income individuals and families to ensure a strong community where families are safe, stable and free from injustice.<\/p>\r\n<p>Awards can be unrestricted, for general support, or be designated to fund legal assistance for a particular population or a specific area of Survivor Justice Center&#8217;s work.<\/p>\r\n<h2>Survivor Justice Center&#8217;s Population Focus<\/h2>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>People living in poverty<\/li>\r\n<li>Women<\/li>\r\n<li>Families<\/li>\r\n<li>Survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault<\/li>\r\n<li>Immigrants<\/li>\r\n<li>Teens and young adults<\/li>\r\n<li>Children<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>Please keep Survivor Justice Center in mind when directing a\u00a0<em>Cy Pres<\/em>\u00a0or court settlement award.
